2011 students post their reflections online

Members of the 2011 UMW South Africa Study Abroad Program have just posted their reflections on the Program and on South Africa. If you’re thinking of joining out 2012 group, please take a look at what they have written. It will give you some idea of the kind of issues we will examine, and the places we will visit, in 2012.

We are now finalizing arrangements for our 2012 Program, which will take place from May 14 – June 4, 2012. Details will be posted here as and when they become available.

In Johannesburg

Our group at the Workers' Museum in downtown Johannesburg. Our walking tour today was led by Eric Itzkin, Deputy Director, Immovable Heritage in Johannesburg's Directorate of Arts, Culture & Heritage

Our group is now in Johannesburg, where our busy schedule has included visits to informal settlements, upmarket shopping malls, the city’s downtown area, and several museums. Members of the group will post their impressions and observations here soon, but in the mean time please take a look at our Facebook photo album to get an idea of what we have been up to.

2011 Program now happening!

Members of our 2011 group in Pretoria, Monday August 1.

The 2011 UMW South Africa Study Abroad began last Friday morning, July 29, when members of the group arrived in Johannesburg.  We immediately set off for Pilanesberg Game Reserve in Northwest Province, where we spent the weekend. We are now in Johannesburg, and will be here for about a week.

During our travels in South Africa, members of the group will post some of their thoughts, impressions, and observations of South Africa on this site. So please come back here often, and join us on our travels!
